Since I came back to college I had this weird feeling that I needed to find a way to be more self caring. In high school, I never took care of my mental health. I was so focused on school that I forgot that mental health is important as well.
I used to have a terrible sleeping schedule. I used to sleep at 3 am ad wake up at 4 am. I used to procrastinate all night, and postpone my sleep. I had trouble with over thinking about past things I’ve done. I was a mental mess.
One day I decided I wanted to change my sleeping schedule. I started looking out for an app or tips to fall asleep quickly but nothing seemed to work. One day I opened app store and an app called Oak popped into the meditation section. It said it was free and I downloaded it and my life changed since that day. I LOVED the app. It really helped with my late night thoughts and my sleeping. Now I tend to sleep at 10 or 11 pm so I can wake up at 5 am every single morning.
The app consists on guided meditation for calm, relaxation and sleep. It’s an amazing app and it’s extremely useful. I recommend it so much. It’s so easy to use and you can schedule when you want to meditate and how long. This is not sponsored or anything. I genuinely love the app, and has been my guidance through this semester. The app is completely free, you don’t have to purchase anything when you’ve already downloaded it.
Another thing that has helped me is trying to love myself more. Sometimes your own words can make the difference. I try to repeat every morning when I wake up some inspiring words. You can find some online or you can invent some. Mines are:
You are good, you are loved, you are beautiful, you are capable of everything, you can achieve want you want, you are the best thing that can happen to you today, you need to embrace that smile, you will ace this day.
Simple words like those can change your whole day. I am going to list some Youtube videos that I’ve been listening to while I am sleeping and have worked for me. Hope they work for you as well.
Some videos last 3 hours, some last 30 minutes. It depends on the type of meditation. Hope this is helpful. I have to assure that I am not a mediation expert or professional, this is only what I’ve learned so far, from own experience. Try it, and comment if it worked for you. I’d love to know, xoxox.
